Fascism, part II
In the aftermath of 9/11, Benemar Benatta was detained as a suspected terrorist. The government cleared him of links to terrorism in November of 2001. And then they finally released him....two weeks ago.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060722/ap_on_re_us/last_detainee_4
Lincoln, Wilson and FDR all violated our civil liberties in the name of national security, but that doesn't make it acceptable. If America wants to be the shining example of democracy and freedom to the world, we can't just discard constitutional protections when they aren't convenient. Otherwise, we look like authoritarian hypocrits...
