This isn't about partisanship - it's about competence.
As was astutely pointed out by someone at redstate.org:
This is not a Democratic or Republican issue. This is a competency issue. This is a good government issue.
You can (and have) had incompetent or poorly chosen nominees under any administration.
Problem is, this issue is much larger than Mike Brown and FEMA. Over the last 5 years, the leadership provided by patronage appointees has caused a mass exodus of professional staffers from the CIA, FDA, EPA and other key agencies. Hanlon's razor would suggest this is due more to sheer incompetence than the systematic advancement of an ideologically driven partisan agenda. Regardless, cronyism and patronage are an anathama to good government whether we're talking about Boss Tweed and Tammany Hall (remember learning about Tammany Hall in middle school?), Mayor Daly in Chicago or the current administration.
